In the world of electrical work, speed and knowledge are the keys to survival. As we always say,

A second lost in an accident can lead to life long pain, but accurate knowledge of First Aid can five someone a second life.

 Recape of Previous Lesson

In last lesson , we discussed Industrial Safety and Regulation. We studied the importance of PPEs kits, personal safety protocols and the severe risks caused by unsafe acts, such as overspeeding or not wearing a helmet.

Today's Lessson : Electrical Shock and First Aid

Understanding Electrcial Shock

An electrical shock occurs when the human body comes into contact with a Live Wire and the circuit is completed through the ground.

Common Causes :

  1.  Touching wries with wer hand

  2. Damaged or poor insulation on cables touches.

  3. Lack of proper Earhing in the system.

How to Rescue a Victim

if you see someone getting an electrical shock , follow these steps immediately:

  1. Cut the Power Supply : You first action should be to turn off the Main Switch.

  2. Safe Separation : If the switch is far away, use a non-conductive objects like a dry wooden stick or rubber mat  to pull the victim away from the wire.

  3. No Direct Contact : Never touch the victim with your bare hands while they are still in contact with the live wire.

First Aid : ABC Method

Once the victim is safe from the supply, move them to an open area with fresh air and check their vitals using the ABC method.

  • A - Airway : Ensure the throat is clear.

  • B- Breathing : Check if the person is breathing.

  • C- Circulation : Check for a puls or heartbeat.

if the victim is not breathing, start Artificial Respiration immediately.

Method of Artificial Respiration :

  • Schafer's Method : Used if these are no injuries to the victim's back.

  • Sylvester's Method : Used if there are no injuries to the victim's chest.

  • Mouth-to-Mouth : Considered the most effective method for quick recovery.

How to Perform CPR

if victim is unconscious and has no pulse, start CPR immediately.

Step 1 : Check Response

Tap the cictim's shoulder and call them. If there is no response , call for an ambulance immediately.

Step 2 : Chest Compressions.

  • Place the victim on hard, flat surface.

  • Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest and lock your second hand over it.

  • Keep your elbow straight and push down hard.

  • Rate : 100 to 120 compression per minute.

  • Depth : The chest should be compressed at least 2 inches deep.

Step - 3 : Rescue Breaths

After 30 compressions, tilt the head back and lift the chin. Pinch the nose shut and give 2 rescue braaths (Mooth-to-Mouth) until the chest reses.

Step-4 : Continue The Cycle

Keep repeating the cycle of 30 compressions and 2 breath unitl help arrives or the victim start breathing.

Check Your Knowledge

  1. What is the very first action to take when rescuring a veictim of  an electrical shock?

  2. In the First Aid formuls "ABC", what does the letter "C" stand for?

  3. Which artifical respiration method is used if the victim has a chest injury?

  4. What safety gear is essential for your feet to prevent electrical shock?

Summery

Today , we explored the severity of electrical shock and life-saving techniques required in emergenies. We learned that timely and accurate First Aid can literally bring a person back from the doorstep of death.

Next Lesson

In next lesson , we will learn about Fire Extnguishers and different classes of fire (Class A,B,C and D
